Most packaging has to display a variety of information, including that which can't be printed cost efficiently with the elaborate, multi-color printing process used for most packaging presentation. Examples include expiration dates and batch or serial numbers. Frequently, the marking has to be applied at the very end of the production process, even after the filling process is completed.
The laser marker is a great tool for marking materials commonly used in the packaging industry, such as paper, cardboard and polymers. Laser marking is a contact free process with no mechanical stress placed on the packaging. As a flexible, computer controlled process, laser marking is suited for quick applications, like marking on moving products or roll materials with a high speed.
There are different marking methods to choose from: removal of colored coatings on cardboard or metal (ex. screw caps), engraving certain polymers and glass, or thermochemical methods such as color changing in the laser lacquer, certain plastic films or labels.
